WORK WITH A BIG IMPACT NEEDN’T HAVE A BIG IMPACT

WORK WITH A BIG IMPACT NEEDN’THAVE A BIG IMPACT

Over the years, The Why have worked across many different sectors on sustainability-related projects – from convincing people of the need for wind power, to explaining how electric vehicles can be a force for good, to promoting locally generated hydro-electricity and lots of ESG communications.

We like our work to make an impact on your audience – not on the environment.

We’re happy to advise you on the most sustainable solutions for your own project – for instance, virtual events can have a similar impact to live ones, but avoid the CO2 emitted from all those road miles.

And we’re always looking for ways to minimise our footprint, from heating our office with local sustainably-sourced wood to reducing paper waste, and avoiding unnecessary travel.

We believe good work can do good at the same time, and we’re proud to have worked on projects that have inspired positive change.

A Swift Story

Hannah Bourne-Taylor is a passionate campaigner for wildlife conservation. She started the ‘Feather Speech Campaign” which aims to make Swift Bricks compulsory in new builds to aid the conservation of cavity nesting birds, including Swifts, which are in danger of extinction in the UK. We began work with Hannah on a pro-bono basis in early 2023, when we heard her inspiring story.

We wanted to create a compelling story for Hannah to use in her campaign and settled on an emotive animation which we called ‘A swift story’. We illustrated the story of the swift in house and used a ‘stop-frame’ animation style to add charm with a warm colour palette and specially composed music. We used elements of the animation as assets to create social media posts which Hannah could use as she continued her mission in spreading awareness and educating a wide variety of people. The result is something we are really proud of.

(Hydro) power to the people

Always interested in local sustainability related issues, The Why became involved in supporting a local hydro-electric project on a pro-bono basis in Marlow in 2023.

Bridge Hydro is a not-for-profit community led project with the intention of utilising advanced and unobtrusive small-scale hydropower technology in Marlow. The project intends to generate profit from the sale of electricity to subsequently fund further sustainable initiatives in Marlow and Bisham.

The Why are focused on the communications side of Bridge Hydro and have supported by developing a website, planning and running events, and shaping the messaging, in order to inform and answer any questions that the public might have about the project.

Sustainability in the Spotlight

Global software company, Citrix, has sustainability at its core – remote working solutions reduce travel and their cloud services are run on renewable energy. They asked us to help communicate their sustainability message at their Citrix 2020 Kick-off Event.

We produced a video to grab the attention of attendees and show how important sustainability is becoming for employees choosing responsible companies. We filmed a panel of three independent experts to broaden the discussion. The video demonstrated how wide-ranging and engaging this topic can be.

A Visual Identity with Values

With a passion for sustainability and protecting the environment, ‘Non-Plastic Beach’ needed a brand identity that encapsulated their ocean-loving, environmental ethos.

We took the time to fully understand what drove them. We created a brand that could be used across everything; from their website and marketing, to their products and packaging – including t-shirts, banners and posters. We developed colour palettes, fonts and logo designs and worked collaboratively with the founders to create a meaningful brand identity for their values-led business.
